Decided to make it a double header and go to C&C as well as going to an evening cruise. Stevo777 joined for both, and we’ll just say it was a great day as a whole. Have some pictures
This was probably the single most significant car to me. My girlfriend really wanted to be next to it for a picture. It’s another SL600 Sport. Yep, just like mine, but silver, and it has the Panorama hard top. It makes the 3rd SL600 Sport I’ve seen other than my own in the past 12 months. I ran the VIN and it says the car is a 97 like mine, but the owner told me it was a 98. Regardless, amazing to see. These cars are hopefully making a comeback, but I still have no idea how many there really are.
Amphicar Model 770 (the only Amphicar model). One of two regulars that go to the Chatterbox.
Chevy Vega drag car.
Lincoln Continental Town Coupe
Classic VW GTI. Love these flat fronts. Convertible too.
Kaiser Darrin 161.
An SL320 parked right behind the SL600 Sport. It was certainly an R129 day. There was also an SL500 that showed up, but unfortunately no pictures. It was a 94-96 model that was re-painted and slowing being fixed up. Yep, for a brief amount of time, the entire R129 US lineup was present. Too bad we couldn’t have gotten them all next to each other for a group shot.
I love T Buckets. I absolutely need one in my life.
This Jaguar XJS straight 6. One of 25 cars ever built with a 5 speed manual. Beautiful looking car.
Then there was an XJS V12 that showed up. Was a barn find, slowly being brought back to it’s former glory. Due to the famous Lucas electronics, it had a kill switch for the battery in the trunk. Guy was really nice, and both of us were pretty shocked there were 3 V12 cars within a hundred feet of each other there. Someone else I knew there said there was another V12 that had left just before I got there.
5 V12 cars in one day. Doesn’t get any better than that!

I was going to ask who’s the cute lass next to the car then read the next couple of lines below the picture. Oops. Very bonny lass.

Why is the roll bar up? I thought the roll bar only came up in an accident.

Nope, theres a switch in the center console to put it up. Theres an optional windscreen that attaches to it as well.
But it will automatically raise if the car thinks its going to crash.

Ar, that’s what I was thinking of.
I thought the ‘windscreen’ was a separate attachment.
I feel silly now. My dad worked at a Mercedes dealership for several years before going to work for Malcolm Wilson at his Saab dealership and I'd spend quite a bit of time wondering around the maintenance bays.

The windscreen literally clips around the roll bar. For when you don’t want to use the windscreen (or have it on), the option included a special cover for it that fit into the trunk. When I clean my SL out next time, I’ll take a picture of it, because I do want to do a really in-depth review of the SL eventually, and the feature set is, well, quite luxurious to say the absolute least.
Many 2+2 convertibles had attachment posts behind the front seats for the optional windscreen, but it also meant no one could be in the back seat. Luckily I don’t have that problem, I have no rear jump seats. That’s a Euro/Japan only option.

We very seriously need to meet up someday for photos. Very very seriously. That and the Oppo who just picked up the XJS.
Are there other V12s on Oppo? Unless there’s a few with the extreme lurkers, there’s only us 3 that I can think of.

Do you just want an R129, or an SL600? The V12 is literally like nothing else. I couldnt let it go (obviously).

The SL600. Without the V12, whats the point?

The SL320 had a manual option.
But of course...the V12 is a dream. Super smooth, excellent acceleration, and the fuel economy isnt really the worst thing. I get like 18mpg average, so obviously better on the highway and a little worse around town.

Oh.... Maybe just shoe horn in a manual on the V12.... Think of the possibilities.

Just find the trans and clutch the Zonda C12 had and you’ll be safe.

It would be sacrilege, but I would really want to do it to an SL73.

Whats sacrilege is it didn’t come manual.
Though if we want to talk sacrilege, I want to build a Shelby cobra kit car. it will be a C6 ZR1 chassis shortened to fit the body, only rattle can flat black it, and actually drive it. Piss off al those stupid Feeerd fan boys and the collectors cause I can enjoy my car.

Theres an FFR Mk3 Roadster with an LS motor. Theres also an FFR 33 Hot Rod with a 6.1L HEMI I think. Kit builders are a special bunch. Im okay with it though, definitely okay.
